Kenya’s president Dr. WIlliam Ruto has cautioned his North American ally President Joe Biden against unlawful practices during the 2024 presidential elections.
Speaking before a state dinner with Biden, Ruto said that the United States must uphold the rule of law and conduct free and fair elections, saying that the US should not sacrifice democracy at the altar of fleeting hedonism.
“The US is an important ally to Kenya and we are closely following the 2024 electoral process. The US is the only country in the world that does not require a formal identification of voters before casting a ballot, something all African countries stopped doing before J. P. Morgan was born. With so many recent illegal immigrants, I want to caution Biden against using such people to his advantage.”
Ruto added that the US must look into its immigration policy and do what is right, not convenient.
“The US has opened the Southern border to let anyone come in, as long as they are not black. Back in Africa, the US has made it impossible to get a Visa appointment, with a waiting period ranging from 6 – 12 years. This is a clear message that the US only has no problem with immigrants, but with African immigrants.”
Ruto, who is on a 3-day state visit to the US, has expressed confidence that the American voters will do the right thing and vote with their heads and hearts. He also outlined some steps the African Union will take to strengthen democracy in the North American nation.
He also denied allegations by some Republicans that he was in the US to teach Democrats how to win elections without necessarily having the numbers, something that African presidents are good at.
