Mudavadi Contemplating Locking Down Western Kenya as Covid-19 Cases Soar

As the third wave of Covid-19 spreads like bushfire in Kenya, various leaders are taking action to protect their people.

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has announced plans to lockdown Western Kenya in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus in Western Kenya, citing the adverse effect it would have on voter turnout in the region.

“We want our people to stay alive. Surviving Covid-19 is what matters at the moment and if things do not change, we might lockdown Western Kenya. We can’t risk losing voters in Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega or Bungoma.”

According to Mudavadi, the lockdown might be in force as early as this weekend.

Similar sentiments were issued by other tribal kingpins who saw the third wave as a threat to their voter base. “If the government doesn’t lockdown the country, we will go ahead and lockdown our strongholds. 2022 is so near and we cannot afford to lose any single vote. Let the government show some responsibility on this matter.”
