The African Union (AU) has come out to strongly condemn the decision by President Donald Trump to halt all forms of aid to African countries, terming the move draconian and outrightly stupid.
In a statement that was issued from the Chinese-funded AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, AU heads of state warned that Donald Trump was crossing a dangerous line that not only damages the US reputation but also puts the lives of many people at risk.
“The United States must remain true to its commitment and continue to fund all the ongoing projects in Africa. You cannot wake up one day and decide to cut aid without consulting the beneficiaries – as if their opinion does not matter. Trump should reverse the order and apologize to the affected African countries before AU takes action.”
The AU commissioner added that the gains made in the last 50 years by donations through programs like PEFAR and USAID would be reversed, dealing a major blow to the US. He called for sanity and commonsense to be restored in the White House.
“We order for immediate and unconditional disbursement of all grants for ongoing projects and expedited processing for all requests for upcoming projects. We are already budgeting for the next financial year and we do not have the luxury of time to wait for Donald Trump to decide if he will act presidential or not. Lives are at stake, and we will hold him responsible for any excess deaths that are caused by malaria, HIV, TB, and all other diseases whose responsibility is the US.”
The most affected programmes include essential drugs for common ailments that any grade 2 kid could predict. Also affected is the fornication industry in Africa which depends on the donation of free condoms from USAID.
The move by Donald Trump was a big blow to AU whose operations are hugely affected by a delay in the disbursement of donor money, since the organization depends on donor funding to cover 80% of their budget. However, the AU plans to reverse this by the year 2120.
