The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) has threatened to deregister Engineer Raila Amollo Odinga after it emerged that he missed three crucial units that are mandatory for registration as an engineer.
Speaking during the ongoing Energy Conference, the EBK chair said that all engineers in Kenya must do at least 35 credit hours in Communication Skills, HIV/AIDS and Development Studies, failure to which one turns out to be a half baked engineer. These are the units that Raila Odinga failed to do at the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
“I know HIV/AIDS had not been discovered then, but any engineer needs to know about it. Communication skill is also important, without which you end up only shouting ‘vijana tibim.’ This is why Raila is not performing well as an Engineer. He must redo the units.”
The board warned that Raila Odinga could be struck off from the list of accredited professional engineers if he does not sit for the three units before the next general elections.
JKUAT or JOOUST?
Raila is expected to hit the classes soon and sources say that his preferred University is Jaramogi Odinga Odinga University of Science and Technology. However, EBK wants the units taken in JKUAT for obvious reasons.
“It is very hard to satisfy the senate or the examinations board in JKUAT. You can dance, sing, pray, pay some money but the board will not even smile. We want Raila to face this hostile board so that he can have a taste of what mwananchi is going through.”
HELB CEO said that they are also willing to step in and offer Raila a loan to cater for the cost pf the study, although he will only pay the loan if he gets a job in the engineering sector.
