IEBC Not Aware that Raila Lost the 2017 Election

The leadership crisis in Kenya has taken a new twist after the electoral commission said it is not aware that Raila Odinga lost the 2017 General Elections.

While responding to a letter from some disgruntled members of the opposition within the Jubilee party who are not sure who is running the government, who is not running the government and who is in the opposition, IEBC said that it had not received any formal communication that Raila lost the election, and thus cannot give any further direction on the matter.

In the letter, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said, “We are not aware that Raila lost the election. We saw him being sworn in and we have seen him acting president all the time. How can it be that he lost?”

He added, “You have seen that Raila has been shaking all hands, leading countrywide rallies, launching projects and walking in and out of State House at will. If you need to know if he is the president, perhaps consult your party leader.”

Confusion

The response has left the members of the opposition within the government in confusion. Exorcised Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen said that they are facing difficulties knowing which president to consult and respect, while at the same time being unable to insult Raila freely as they do not know how much power he commands.

Even the Deputy President William Ruto has said that he is not sure whose deputy he is, although he promised to do his best to serve all the available presidents of Kenya.
